CULTURAL FIESTA 2019

THEME: CELEBRATING THE CULTURE THAT UNITES US



The Akwa Ibom Community Cultural Fiesta was the first of it kind in Abuja. It was a very colourful event with a lot of cultural display/performance, Akwa Ibom Community Abuja, which was hither to known as Akwa Ibom Development Association, Abuja, is essentially a socio-cultural association of indigenes of Akwa Ibom state resident in Abuja and its environs. The event was held at Green field area by the artificial water Jabi, FCT Abuja. On the 23rd November, 2019 attended by some dignitaries amongst whom the President of Akwa Ibom Community Abuja Bar. Aniefiok Ibah, Elder (Dr.) Aniefon Akpabio, Elder Udofia Ephraime, Comm. Otobong Okon, (King) Imo Etuk, (Queen) Glory Akpan, Elder E.U Udofia, Member of Planning Committee, Past Presidents, Member of Board of Trustee, Executive Council and other dignitaries.
 








The event begins with a cultural float, introduction/arrival of guest and recognition of dignitaries by the M.C of the day followed by an opening prayer by one of the member of board of trustee. National anthem and Akwa Ibom Community anthem was as well recited.

Welcome address by the President of Akwa Ibom Community Abuja Bar. Aniefiok Ibah, has called for unity among the various groups in the state to enhance peace, progress and prosperity in the state. Speaking under the theme of the fiesta, “Celebrate the Culture that Unites us,” he said “we need to guard our loins against negative propaganda, Pull Him Down(PHD) syndrome, blackmail, socio-political backstabbing and other tendencies that tend to threaten the fabrics of our unity.

“Akwa Ibom is a uni-cultural state where norms, taboos, customs and traditions are the same. Out folkways may vary from one ethnic grouping to another but the operational norms of the culture are the same. He further encourage everyone to show one another, love, and kindness and contribute positively to the development of Akwa Ibom. An opening remark was made by the Chairman after the President welcome address.

Remarkably, this is the first of its kind since creation of the community in 1988. The Fiesta with the theme “Celebrating the Cultural that Unites Us”. Obviously, the theme of this maiden fiesta is not only apt but times. It will be a wakeup call to all other ethic divides across the country Nigeria and beyond for an arisen consciousness to explore all avenues to put their culture and tradition at the front burner in their daily dialogue. This can be a recipe to the insecurity ravaging some states in Nigeria and beyond.

The fiesta was a very colourful one as there was different kinds of cultural display/performance, unveiling of cultural symbols, competition on cultural parades, competition on cultural dance, food exhibitions competition, award presentation by dignitaries, refreshment after which compilation/announcement of results.

In the course of the fiesta some dignitaries were interviewed by SFSN Media Team among whom Elder (Dr.) Aniefon Akpabio who is a past president of Akwa Ibom Community, Abuja, talked about the security challenges in the country stating the need for individual to be security conscious, He also stated the need for Security members of the communities should embrace peace as a panacea to national development and also in developing the security activities, members of every society should enhance and accept the training of their youth to have scientific knowledge of forensic studies. Every human community need peace and a secure environment. He commended the activities of Security and Forensic Study Nigeria in the area of equipping the society and security operative on the trend of security apparatus investigation.
